Vodafone taking on Jio? Launches Rs 177 and Rs 496 prepaid plans
Vodafone Rs 496 plan offers 1GB of data per day for a period of 84 days, while the Rs 177 plan will offer 1GB for 28 days.

The telecom war continues as Vodafone has come out with some new offers to take in Reliance Jio. The telcos has launched a two new voice offers for new prepaid customers who join Vodafone’s SuperNet 4G network in Delhi & NCR. The new Rs 496 and Rs 177 plans offer unlimited local and STD as well as free national roaming (incoming and outgoing), but vary on data and validity.
The Rs 496 plan offers 1GB of data per day for a period of 84 days, which means users will get 84GB of data in total. Meanwhile, the Rs 177 will offer 1GB for 28 days. Note that this is a First Recharge offer for new customers and for those who have ported their numbers from a different operator.
“We, at Vodafone, believe in providing the best network, service experience and value to our customers. We are pleased to extend world class Vodafone services with a basket of offerings to mobile subscribers in Delhi NCR. The Rs 177 & Rs 496 First Recharges are very attractive offers for prepaid customers wanting to switch over to Vodafone SuperNet,” Alok Verma, Business Head, Delhi & NCR, Vodafone India said.
Vodafone’s new offer comes following Jio’s new tariff plans earlier this month. The Rs 496 plan in particular tries to take on Jio’s new Rs 459 plan which also offers 84GB of data for a period of 84 days with a with a daily FUP limit of 1GB data apart from unlimited local and STD voice calling facilities. However, Jio also has a Rs 509 plan that offers 98GB of 4G data with a daily FUP limit of 2GB and unlimited voice calls and SMS facilities, which seems like a better deal compared to what Vodafone is offering right now.
You can check the whole list of prepaid offers from Jio ranging from Rs 52 to Rs 4,999 as well as new postpaid offers right here. As of now, it doesn’t look like the data tariff war is going to cool down anytime soon, at least not as long Jio keeps bringing in new offers. However, a recent report by Goldman Sachs notes that Jio will be slowly raising its data prices almost every month and it will be interesting to see whether Jio customer will remain loyal as the company’s prices start matching those offered by other telcos.
